Here’s a cool spot for discerning mid-century enthusiasts and desert rats planning their annual fall and winter escapes to Palm Springs.

Maybe you’ve heard of it, or stayed there, but the iconic desert hideaway aka The Desert Hot Springs Motel underwent a major makeover and resurfaced as a chic, four suite boutique property called Hotel Lautner.   Los Angeles based interior designer Tracy Beckmann of Tracy Beckman Design and furniture designer Ryan Trowbridge of Brown + Trowbridge purchased the famed modernist architect John Lautner’s mid-century gem (built in 1947) and spent 3 ½ years working on the facelift.

All feature high end appointments, vintage modern furniture, luxurious baths, contemporary kitchens, private gardens,  spa pool and outdoor lounge areas.

Located in Desert Hot Springs, about a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles, the Hotel Lautner appeals to a metropolitan sensibility, with contemporary creature comforts such as Frette linens, L’Occitane bath products, induction cook tops, TV/DVD, free WiFi and iPhone docks.
